Fluctuations from Thermalization at RHIC

چکیده

The centrality dependence of dynamic fluctuations of the transverse momentum and the net charge can signal the approach to local thermal equilibrium in nuclear collisions. I explore this signal by comparing transport-theory calculations to STAR and PHENIX data at a range of energies. In particular, I find that this model can describe PHENIX data on the dependence of fluctuations on the pt range in which they are measured.

Two RHIC puzzles: Early thermalization and the HBT problem

Hadron spectra from the first year RHIC run are shown to be excellently reproduced by hydrodynamic calculations. We argue that in particular the elliptic flow data provide strong evidence for early thermalization at RHIC, at energy densities well above deconfinement, but that the phenomenologically extracted short thermalization time scale of less than 1 fm/c provides a serious challenge for th...

Heavy-Flavor Collectivity – Light-Flavor Thermalization at RHIC

Flow measurements of multi-strange baryons from Au+Au collisions at RHIC energies demonstrate that collectivity develops before hadronization, among partons. To pin down the partonic EOS of matter produced at RHIC, the status of thermalization in such collisions has to be addressed. We propose to measure collective flow of heavy-flavor quarks, e.g. charm quarks, as an indicator of thermalizatio...
